It runs on either battery (1x AAA battery supplied) or the mains adapter (supplied), if you use the mains it has a permanently lit display, the display is red, green and blue, the temperature, day, date and month are also displayed. It has a bleeping alarm with a snooze button and it also has a manual setting option.
